How odds conversion works
Decimal odds include your stake: a decimal price is the total you get back for each 1 unit staked. Fractional odds show only the profit, so decimal = (numerator ÷ denominator) + 1. That makes 5/2 equal to 2.5 + 1 = 3.50.
American odds are built around a 100 stake. A plus number is the profit on a 100 bet, so +250 means a 250 profit on 100. A minus number is the stake needed to win 100, so −200 means you stake 200 to make 100 profit, which is 1/2 or 1.50.
Implied probability is 1 ÷ decimal odds. At 3.50 that is 1 ÷ 3.5 = 0.286, or 28.6%. Add up the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market and you will usually get more than 100%: the excess is the bookmaker's margin.
